Added a couple beads to make a moth/butterfly.  Changed the trail to match color with the critter.

Can't quite see the detail in the weaving.

Badge Mini-Tapestry

Not a name tag per se, but a personalized artistic badge to wear to Loscon and others.

I'm adding a moth/butterfly.

Facescape ~ Trimmed

Facescape:  Moth to Flame

Pretty light-weight for its size.  I may tack it down to a background in lieu of attaching loops.

Or...what if I quilted it, complete with a narrow border?

Dry

Looks dry to me.  Now I'll remove it from the board and trim all the loose ends.

Facescape Nearly Done

Embroidered the mouth and details in the luna moth.  

Just about ready to wet & set.  Maybe a tweak or two first.

Closing in on it

Just a couple large areas to fill in, then lots of stuffing here and there to shape up the design and even out the threads.

Also embroider the mouth.

Weaving Tabs

Wove tabs to hang the tapestry.  Attached them to the top.  Could have been longer, but this will do.  I'll have to dye or stain a dowel about that size.  Should work just fine.

Lucy ~ Face Scape

Based on Lucy Seaman's space scapes, another variation with my moth.  This time with a face in the nebula.

Not specifically Lucy's face, but based on it.  I'd like to capture her smirky smile.

Thinking I might make it wider, also have the warp go the long way.  That would mean weaving the image on its side, but why not?

Or maybe larger face in proportion to the moons and moth.

Smaller elements.

Face is a little weird.  Definitely no kohl.

Some thoughts. Eyes ~ beads on white buttons, eyelids woven over the top.  Moons buttons, moth shell beads.

Moons can hang over the edge.  Trailing path of the moth ~ might be extended over the edge as well with wire or supp. warp.  Interesting idea.

All Tucked

All tucked and awaiting mounting.  I've ordered some hardwood doweling to see how that looks.  Or I could attach it to cloth and frame it as I have previous mini-tapestries.

Ready to Set

Pinned all around the sides so I can spray it with water to set.  Planet button (which is wood) will be permanently attached when the tapestry's dry.

And now it's wet.

I've ordered some hardwood dowels to play with for mounting.

Almost Done

Lucy passed away early this morning.  The tapestry is almost done. 

Basically just finishing to do.  Maybe a little weaving here and there.

An amalgam of our styles ~ Lucy's spacescapes with my tapestry technique.  The luna moth is mine.

Now with More Button

Found a button I like for the planet.  Decided not to fight with the yarn.  Weaving a circle is beyond frustrating.  I like this better anyway.

Back to Weaving

Off to Joann's to look at buttons.  I don't want to weave the planet.

Buttons and Beads

So I went to Joann's and looked at buttons and beads.  Found some interesting moons and planets, and some shells that could easily make up a moth.

No guarantee the shells would configure that neatly of course.  Especially if they're strung on the warp.

Another planet button with a woven moth.  Or of course woven moth and planet.  I could get more color in that way.

Thinking I may go ahead as I planned, then make a variation next using buttons, etc.

More Weave ~ Luna Luce

Got some weaving done yesterday at the Laurels' meeting.  Handwork is a popular pastime with that crowd.  ;- ]

Took a pic out in the sun and the detail shows up a little better in the black if you blast it out.

Don't know why I weave with black so much.  ;- j

Time for a lunch break.

Luna Weave

Started weaving today.  Best to get the edges done early, tho I'm holding off weaving the bottom until I decide if I'm adding any more beads.

Maybe four hours?  I lose track of the time when I'm weaving.

Black doesn't show up well in a pic, but I wanted to give an idea of the varied textures.

Taking a stretch break.  But I know I'm in the compulsive stage now, so I'll be back to it again shortly.
