Worked on the gold band at SH after lunch with Tina. She worked on a new watercolor.

Rethinking the Cat Motif
Shaping the cat via the background. Some elements (ears, legs) will be finer white yarn ~ perhaps cotilin. The body can be angora.

Back At It
Back at it. I expect I'll get a lot of weaving done while Bill is in Trinidad this week.
Adding the gold.
On the homefront, Bill missed his flight to Trinidad and is now rerouted thru New Jersey. He'll be getting in a couple hours later.
Lunch break.
I like this cat better.

Robyn's Device ~ Cartoon & Pin Placement
Cartoon with arrangement of motifs. Placement of pins.
Now warped and ready to weave.
Let the obsessive-compulsive weaving disorder begin. ;-]
Darker than it looks in person.
Time to break for dinner.

Better Lighting
Better lighting, but still not true color. It's very hard to get blues and greens to both read true at the same time. This comes pretty close.
I want to add my signature chop, possibly embroidered on the background cloth. But nothing I have to rush in to.
I can move along not to my tapestry commission for Lee Wygand in the SCA.

Coming Together
Sewing tapestry onto background. Color wildly off. Background is actually light blue. Strange lighting today.

Finally Back at It.
Tacked the tapestry to the stabilizer, cut it down, tucked and glued misc. ends. Waiting for it to dry.
Next, work on frame. Cut foam core board to right size, add batting and background material. Screw in eyelets and attach wire. Frame.
Then tack tapestry to the front.

Tucking and Tacking
Tucking loose threads and beginning to tack the tapestry down to the stabilizing material. Also reinforced the focal bead.
Each step at this point is like pulling teeth. There's a decision point at every step. No longer Zen.

It's a Frame Job
Tapestry is so heavy I decided to go with a frame. This should work very nicely. Need a background. Something neutral? Ivory to pick out the jellyfish?

Moving Toward the Finishing Line
Time to wet and set the tapestry. Maybe add a few more passes, but I don't think it needs much.
After it's w&s I'll attach a non-fusible stabilizer to the back. I expect the blown glass bead to be pretty heavy. Also I want to run another sturdy yarn or multiple yarns thru the bead and around to the back for extra strength.
Then it'll be time to figure out how I'll mount or hang it.
Wet and setting. Looks like a night scene. ;- ]
Drying, drying...

Gold Thread?
I don't think I like the gold thread. Probably take it out. Might try another way to add it.
Ok, trying something else. Better.
Much better.
Detail.
Small additions. Filling in the corners.
Detail.

So Close
So close. Need to tuck in the ends so I can see the whole thing.
Tucking, tucking.
***
Giving some thought to the weight of the tapestry ~ specifically the glass bead. It'll need supplementary support from the back. Maybe even tack the whole tapestry to a backing (i.e., tack it in rows on the back).

Weaving and tucking. Time for a stretch break.

Action shot. For size comparison. Taking a break today (or at least 'til the afternoon); lunch with Tina.

Painting with Thread
Not sure I like the sea foam and spray. I'll think about that.

It can get messy. Taking a break.
One of Signy's less helpful days.
