Hobbity Garden Warped Up

Yay!  My 10/2 linen warp came and I warped up the tapestry loom.  I added some bits and bobs for the hobbity garden, with more coming.  About to start weaving!

Midnight Musings

So I couldn't sleep last night and I started thinking about my ~6x6 mini-tapestries.  I was experimenting with weaving from the back (regular tapestry weaving) instead of my uber-textured weaving from the front.  I got plexi looms so I can check on my progress from the back when I remove the cartoon.

They're just the perfect size for ATA's unjuried shows and I'm thinking of entering one of them (if they fit the time period requirements).  https://americantapestryalliance.org/exhibitions/unjuried-small-format-tapestry-exhibition/

I missed this year's deadline, but maybe next time.

My favorite mini-tapestry is the paleo horse on the flame rock face.  I'm thinking of Paleo Pony: By Firelight.  Or some such title.  Painted Pony By Firelight?

Also thinking of calling them collectively Textures (especially if I weave them from the front with goo-gaas).

Also wanted to record the idea of printable cloth for tapestry labels. www.amazon.com/Avery-Printable-Fabric-Printers-03384/dp/B0000C0CJZ/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=printable+fabric&qid=1598023776&sr=8-5#

More Hobbity Garden

Enlarging the foreground image, reducing the background image.  Meld them.

Foreground on the right will be either a large sunflower or a large hollyhock.

Hobbity Garden

Otherwise known as fuzzy feet.  ;- ]

Color is off (it came off the printer, which is having issues at the moment).  It'll be green/purple/pinky-orange basically.  The foam core board is 11"x14" and the tapestry will be roughly 8"x10".  The board is large enough to weave the straps along with the tapestry.  No idea what dangles there will be yet, but I have no problem adding them on later.

Shelter From the Storm

Photographed on the front door with diffused sun and room light.

Needs to be sized for the submission (300ppi, 2100pixels).

Latest Hobbity Cartoon

Colors aren't true.  Pushed the hobbit hole into the background to emphasize the hobbity tableau in front.

Some decisions:  use linen or some variation for warp (instead of dental floss).  Ordered a hobbit hole door lapel pin.  Lilac bush/tree. Books, yarn, flower vase (likely roses, but more pink to fit in with the purpley-bluey-greeny colorway), tea mug.  A rose arbor?  Different flowers: sunflowers, hollyhocks, different shapes for interest.

Juried and Unjuried ATA Shows

Shelter From the Storm
is almost done.  I'm going to submit it to a juried show with ATA (American Tapestry Alliance).  Submission is due Aug. 15.  If accepted, it must be sent in Oct., for a spring show.

Now I've discovered ATA also has an unjuried show, which will be online due to Covid-19.

So, if I don't get into the juried show, perhaps I'll get into the unjuried show.

Getting Loopy

Wove the loops for hanging the tapestry.  Wet and set them.

Wet & Set

Once it dries (and poofs) I'll tuck ends into the back and maybe secure the fox bead more securely.  Then I'll weave the loops.  They'll probably be 3" or so.

Stormy Weather?

Need to come up with a title.

Stormy WeatherLooks Like We're In for Nasty WeatherBad Moon on the Rise?

Kinda like the simpler Stormy Weather

Or, go another way:  Shelter From the Storm

Winds of Change.

Eye of the Storm.

Weaving Done?

Basically.  Now I tuck some more, fill in places, and then set.  Still don't know how I'll hang it yet ~ as a tapestry with straps on a rod, or mounted and framed.  Still not happy with the tapestries I've framed.

Thinking about the windy bits

Not quite happy with the windy bits.  Maybe I can add some tiny clear beads here and there to catch the light.

More Swirly Winds

Working on the swirly winds some more.  Working up to attaching the moon.

Windy Bits

Working on the windy bits now.  Popped the moon on there to get a look at it.  I bought some really kewl stone disks, but I still like this one best.

Shelter Tapestry

Here's where I am so far.  Got a lot of weaving done during the NASA/SpaceX launch of the Dragon Crew capsule to the Space Station.

Tapestry ~ Shelter

Proof that I am warped.

Shelter from the Storm?  Stormy Weather?  Bad Moon Rising?
